Take a sleeping pill, wake up in the daffodils, feel your spirit moving through a hypnagogic battlefield, call in the rabbit riders, help put out the raging fires, duck and cover, hold your lover, what new plane will you discover? So what is one to do? Fell into a hole or two, Dishonest Abe will make an honest living off of you, so don't forget you're not awake and pray your soul to take, travel lightly when you're swimming in the fire lake! Say good day to the night, settle into a dream, watch them block out the light in the in between, is this a vivid dream? Hearing people yell and scream, the Hypnagoggins got their way again behind the scenes, who's laughing in my ear? At night your voice is crystal clear, the submarine delivers you to somewhere in between, the black umbrella breaks exposing all the fakes, peeking through the veil to see what else is in the in between, you're in your bed again surrounded by the talking men, let their voices guide you in a journey through your mental den, they turn your bed into a shallow grave, it's not the dark keeping you awake, it's the voices in your ear, your bed's afloat in a murky lake, and you just wanna be back home all alone, waiting on the dawn to break.

About TEM

From the outskirts of Chicago, USA, the Elephant March has crafted a distinct sound which is difficult to place within a specific genre. Sharing lead vocal and songwriting responsibilities, the creative engine of J. Wood and Matthew Redden is a partnership spanning several years between solo efforts, side projects and different iterations of the band itself. If the music can be characterized as art for art’s sake, then its purpose may be understood as an answer to a call. Often described as alternative or underground rock, they have drawn significant inspiration from auditory hallucinations, the cradle from which much of their compelling material has been forged. The duo has yielded a small mountain of songs, some of which have been lost in the ether and some that are locked away in the vault. But the debut record Greetings from Hypnagogia has arrived. Recorded and produced in Wood’s home studio, the album displays their deep reverence for the dreamlike tones of vintage synths and warm fuzz of analog guitar pedals while creating a musical dichotomy that spans from dizzying and eccentric to haunting and whimsical. Like slipping in between states of consciousness, the imagery and lyrical content is intimate, distorted, jarring, even a bit unsettling. Weaving childhood nostalgia with warped illustrations from a lucid dreamscape, the Elephant March coalesces their varied musical backgrounds to deliver a uniquely familiar experience and a respite from the conventional.
